Numeracy Instructional Resources

Have you heard of the Numeracy Project? In my state we use this as our math intervention for students with IEPs. I think it’s great because it gets to the heart of whether a student truly understands our number system and can fluently work with numbers. These are foundational for moving on to fractions and more difficult operations.

Here are some great resources that I have found related to the numeracy project.

Searchable activity database

The Bluegrass state (Kentucky) has a searchable activity database where you can get lesson plans and activity printable for each skill code of the numeracy project. I literally just found this, and it seems like a much easier way to find activities than what I have seen so far.

Assessment

Numeracy Consultants have come up with an assessment that is fairly quick and covers the same types of skills as the numeracy Project. They arrange the components according to type of skill rather than according to stage.  In other words, you check how high a student can count, then what type of skip counting they can do, then operations, rather than assessing each of those areas in stage, one then stage two, etc.

The assessment is pretty quick to do. If you watch the whole training, they will give you access to the assessment for free and a few other free resources.

Videos

Instructional videos. Videos you can use with your students during instruction. In this one I demonstrate the concepts more and less.

Math in real life series. Videos from my everyday life of simple math problems that I have to solve. Here’s one where I decide how many pairs of pants I should pack for a trip:

I hope these are useful to you! Enjoy!
